此前，罗伊-基恩做客了天空体育节目，在节目中，他敦促曼联聘请现纽卡主帅埃迪-豪来接替阿莫林，内维尔呼应了基恩关于启用经验丰富主帅的呼吁，坚称俱乐部需要通过任命一位熟悉英超、能承受压力且拥有成功履历的主帅，以此“规避风险”来选择下一任主教练。

内维尔在天空体育节目中表示：“他们应当规避风险。现在看来这个任命可能要推迟四五个月，对此我并不反对——因为如果能在赛季末请到安切洛蒂或图赫尔那种级别的主帅，等待是值得的。”

“过去十二年间，球队的比赛内容始终不尽如人意。回顾这些年的主帅任命，只有穆里尼奥符合俱乐部的要求标准。”

“必须熟悉联赛，以此规避风险。他们是否有英超执教经验？是否了解英格兰足球？是否有欧战经历并在欧冠证明过自己？”

“是否拥有成功夺冠的履历？能否应对巨大压力和严峻舆论环境？候选人必须符合这些标准。”

“你会想到安切洛蒂和图赫尔。他们都有过英格兰执教经历，赢得过联赛冠军和欧冠，并且擅长管理顶级球星。即使评论员提出质疑，他们也不会怯场。”

“我的观点是，按照这套标准考量，市面上符合条件的人选只有两三位。”
